Key West and Bahamas

The girls didn't want to get off the ship in Key West. We couldn't interest them in any of the activities we found. I guess it's not super geared toward kids anyway.
We found the "Smallest Bar in Key West", and it is owned by a guy from St. Louis, so we had to get a picture with our new friend. He had actually just relocated here after the hurricane a few weeks before.
Kiersten loves Pusheen the cat, so I got this picture to show her.
Proof that we are meant to be. Not the first time we've found our names next to each other in a souvenir shop.

These 3 weren't one bit sorry not to see Key West. Ben and I had a great time wandering the streets and meeting new friends. We found a cool bar to watch the Chiefs game, but I left him there at half time to go back to the ship for some sunbathing. I was glad I did when it turned out to be the warmest and sunniest day of the vacation. I'd hate to have wasted another hour and a half inside.

Kara and I were off the ship bright and early to run a 5K at Castaway Cay. The weather was temperate, and I was excited to not be roasting!
Ben and the little girls grabbed us a great spot on the beach to set up for the day.

Kara and I went back to the ship to clean up and change into our bathing suits.

We enjoyed the Christmas decorations set up all around the island.

We had some fun with our posing and it was great just to laugh together and let the girls be silly.

Pelican plunge is always tons of fun, even in chilly water.

It's always fun to get buried in the sand.

We saw a lot of fish. I love watching all the little kids at the beach chasing them and trying to catch them. There are some really confident fish.
Ben and I snuck away to Serenity Bay while the girls were in the kids club on the beach. The water was cold, so there was almost no one over there. Back on the family beach, there were plenty of people in the water, so I guess all the kids were dragging their parents in to play. I was not interested in snorkeling, though.

When we were in Nassau, the Disney Dream was also in port. It was kind of fun to be parked next to her, and our waiter was telling us about getting to go on a tour. He was pretty excited to see how big the Dream is compared to the Wonder. I guess the crew areas were really impressive.

We got day passes at a resort, and headed over there first thing. The weather wasn't looking great, so we wanted to enjoy the morning while we could.

Kiersten really wished that Grandma Boot were there to see this fun nutcracker.
The resort was lovely, and I just wish we had a nicer day. We would have stayed longer if we weren't getting rained on half the time. At least it wasn't cold! I'm not always the best trooper when it's cold out.
As you can see, we were quite close to the port. It was fun to look over and see the 2 Disney ships.
The girls played giant checkers.
They also enjoyed virgin pina coladas.
The eating area filled up quick when it started pouring down rain, so we had to wait a while to get a table. They couldn't run the grill while it was raining, so we couldn't have gotten food anyway. When we finally did eat, the food was great!
The beach was really nice, but roped off in a pretty small area due to construction. I'd like to come back when the construction is done and see how the beach is. The kids had a great time anyway, as they always seem to do. I didn't think the water was as cool as it had been at Castaway.

Right as Ben and Kiersten went snorkeling, the storm came rolling in. Kara and Evie swam anyway until it was raining pretty good.
We were the last ones down on the beach until we finally gave up and went back up to the resort. There was no thunder, so I wasn't terribly concerned.

We hid out under these canopy chairs, and the girls got pretty silly. Just when I was starting to be annoyed and wanting to leave, the clouds cleared out and the day got nice again.
The girls wanted to play in the pool for a bit.

They also got in the hammocks for a while.
Back on the ship, we ended up with a warm enough day, so the girls played in the pool.

On our last sea day, the ship alarm was accidentally triggered. The crew didn't have a clue what was going on, and a few people started freaking out. Before too long, the captain came over the loud speaker to announce that it was a mistake, and everything was fine. But in the 2-3 minutes after the alarm when the crew was yelling to get out life jackets, and Kara was off in the Edge, and Evie was at the other end of the ship getting watermelon, my heart kind of stopped beating. The Edge staff sent the kids to their rooms to get their life jackets on, and Kara was really scared. She said she started crying when she got back to the room and didn't find us. I was glad that the staff in there did what they were supposed to do, because the lifeguards and most of the wait staff at Cabanas, just sort of shrugged their shoulders and admitted they didn't know what to do.
After all that excitement, it was hard to calm back down, but the kids were just right back in the pool.
