Girls update 3/27

The girls have been staying fairly busy lately. Kiersten is doing great in school, and can't wait for the weather to start warming up. She's also quite excited about her magic lessons that begin next week.
Evie is growing so fast, and we can't seem to keep her in any size of clothing for very long. We are almost to the point of taking clothes straight from Kiersten's closet and giving them right to Evie without packing them away.
Kara is also having a growth spurt, and has been really into a robot project, and binary chapter she's been working on at CCL.
These jars I painted didn't quite turn out how I was picturing them in my head. So I gave them to Kara. She is using one as a save jar, and one as a spend jar. Last I looked, she had 2 dimes in the spend jar. She wants to save up for an alarm clock that is $100 called Clocky. I think it's a silly thing to want, but if she saves up for it, I figure it will be a good learning experience for her.

When Kara went on her Daddy-Daughter date a few weekends ago, I hosted a pajama party for the other girls.
They were really excited to put on lipstick and eye shadow.
They sure had some interesting poses.

Kiersten really has the "moody" model look down. I had to coach her into smiling for one.
It was the night before St. Patrick's Day, so we all painted our toenails green.
They did fight a little over the last strawberry, but Kiersten finally just let Evie have it.
I read 2 chapters of Kiersten's new book to them.
One day during spring break, the girls wanted to have a Barbie war. Kiersten and I were on a team against Kara and Evie. We made quick claim to the Barbie house, and all inhabitants therein.
 Evie trying to be sneaky.
 Rallying the troops.
Evie defected to our side, so I made Kiersten be on Kara's team. It took her about 10 seconds to announce she was really just a spy, and turn on Kara. Surprisingly, Kara was holding her own fairly well.
But just in time, Kiersten released her secret horde of naked Barbies that were hiding in the garage of the Barbie house. Kara's troops were just no match in the end.
They eventually made peace, and we all enjoyed a snack as a reward for bringing peace to the kingdom of Kiersten's room.

Lucky Day!

This morning Kiersten woke up because she heard little fast footsteps, and crazy giggling. She got out of bed to find a magical path. So she woke the rest of us up to follow it.  It went from the top of the stairs, down, and around through the living room, finally leading us to the dining room.
This pot of gold was not hidden very well. Better luck next time, Mr. Leprechaun!

Quite an exciting morning.
There was some candy consumed before breakfast this morning...
Kara knew this headband was meant for her because it was "the most fun and cool". She assigned Evie the green, fuzzy one, because it is darling, and Evie is darling, so that was obvious.
Kiersten made quick claim to this pot of gold/rainbow headband. She said she knew it was for her because it is the most fashionable.
Happy St. Patrick's Day :)
The girls were all able to wear their same shirt from last year, so that was convenient.

SIX years old

Kiersten turned 6 years old! All she wanted for breakfast was pop tarts. I was okay with that, because we slept in a little late.
Evie had cub club, so she was at school for an extra 2 1/2 hours. That gave me plenty of time to decorate and wrap gifts.
I made her a giant cookie instead of doing another cake. She always asks for these at the store. But I think frosting on a chocolate chip cookie is too much. So I made whipped cream and added in a little maraschino cherry juice while I was whipping it, to turn it pink. It was a big hit. I realize now, seeing the picture, that it looks like I put an "8" at the bottom. But that's just supposed to be a bunch of flowers...
My little helper. She was so excited to help me. (help me lick the bowl and spoon, that is)
Ben came home early, and met her at the bus stop. She was so excited to see him! She decided to open her gifts from family before dinner. The Kmart near our house is going out of business, so I got her lots of fun little things, like this wand that attaches jewels to hair.

She gets a little excited. But at least we know she is appreciative.

We got her a Strawberry Shortcake  playset. All 3 girls played with this all evening. Evie is already requesting one for her birthday, though I don't think they need 2. She even made a fake phone call to Aunt Nancy to tell her that she wants it.
Kara kept ducking down to hide behind the chair every time we took a picture. But I caught her this time, right as she popped back up.
For dinner, she requested tortellini and artichokes. So it was pretty easy. But I prefer when they want to order food or go to a restaurant, so I have an excuse to get out of cooking.
making her birthday wish!
I adore this sweet little six year old!

The sun came out

We took the girls to see Peabody and Sherman last weekend. Kiersten has been dying for it to come out. She loves watching some old Bullwinkle dvds that Ben bought a few years ago. At the theater, they found some other movies to look forward to seeing.
I think the cutest muppets are the 2 in the bottom right corner.

After the movie, it was such a nice day. So we decided to grab some lunch and head to the park to play while we had the chance. Kiersen's friend was there, so she was just thrilled about that.

Evie and I have been enjoying lunch outside this week. Some guys from our internet company were digging up a line in our front yard on Tuesday, so we decided to sit out on the deck. There were lots of bugs, but after I insisted it was okay, Evie tried not to be scared. And I tried not to let her notice when I hastily flicked a spider off my skirt in horror.
I let her pick out a juice box, and she whispered, "this doesn't count as my sweet drink does it?" I told her just this once, she could have an extra sweet drink for the day. But she forgot, and had water for dinner anyway.
Her little friend, Hootsie joined us in the sunshine.
Hopefully the nice weather will last through spring break so we can get outside even more!
