11/18/10
While Vicky was here visiting she bought me this for my birthday. It is a cupcake maker. It makes the perfect size little cupcakes (slightly bigger than the standard mini size) and it only takes 5 minutes to bake.
so we decided to try out the new hello cupcake book that Nancy sent me as a birthday gift. The girls looked through it and picked out which one they wanted to do.
they picked these ants. It was a pretty good choice because it turned out that they could do a lot of the steps by themselves
finished cupcakes. the ones in the book were a lot cleaner looking, but I really wanted to let the girls help make them, so ours were a little sloppy, but still just as tasty!
Evie started rice cereal on monday. she wasn't sure about it at first.
she is starting to like the new food now. here she is eating dinner last night.
yesterday was my birthday. Ben and the girls made me this cake. Ben must have been saying something as he took the picture, so I looked up. He also made me a delicious birthday dinner. it was a double bonus because I didn't have to cook, and I love his food. Also, he was home from work early, and I'm always a fan of that! Ben and kara woke me an hour earlier than usual to sing happy birthday and give me my gift. So I didn't mind being awake early. Kara and I made muffins in the new cupcake maker. Then we had some time to hang out before taking Kara to school. Kiersten threw me a birthday tea party with all her play food, and that was lots of fun. (even if it prevented me from folding the laundry). So it was a fun day, even if we didn't get to go to chuck e. cheese, which was devastating to Kara. She kept saying that she had planned me a birthday party there. Before school she was very upset about it, but she didn't bring it up again after I picked her up in the afternoon. She reminded me again that I am now 29. then she said, "next time you will be 30." i agreed that was correct, and then she asked how old is grandma Vansickle. I offered a round about guess, and she said, "wow! that's a lot of numbers!" i thought that was pretty funny. When I picked her up, her teacher asked for clarification about what Ben does. They were learning about jobs, and all the kids know what their daddys do, but she said Kara didn't. All she kept saying, was "he spends everyone's money". she thought Kara was trying to say he went to work to earn money, but didn't know what he did there. I explained he's a financial planner, and then it made more sense to her. but I did have a hard time thinking of a defferent way to explain his job to her. he always tells her he helps people with their money, so I guess she thought that meant spending it. I reminded her that daddy is good at earning the money, and she and I are usually the ones who spend it.

Children's museum in Portland
Yesterday we decided to drive down to the portland children's museum. Kara says that the water room was her favorite part. We did spend a lot of time in there.
Kiersten kept wanting me to check his breath to see if it smelled stinky or clean. I was saying it smelled good, but then she would spot a cootie bug, and get back to brushing.
Everyone had to take advantage of this photo op.

making stuff out of clay. The girls liked doing it, but once Ben and I started getting dirty from the clay, we were outta there.
Vicky was so nice to hold Evie most of the time so I could play with the girls. and I know how heavy that kid can feel after holding her for a while.
Kara told Ben she wanted her face painted like a puma. this was his creation. Though, after further questioning from Jason and me, I'm not convinced he even knows what a puma is. ;)
Kiersten didn't like her face paint, and wanted it off as soon as she looked in the mirror. I think she was expecting to look like she did on halloween when I put a little eyeshadow and lipstick on her.
after a few hours here, we met up with Ben's brother, Jason and his new wife, Lisa. Vicky had met her already, but it was Ben and my first time meeting her. She is really great. And the girls just loved her, especially Kiersten. We stopped by their house for a bit. I apparently missed out on fun times with their cat, as I stayed in the car to nurse Evie. Ben had to fight to get Kiersten to wear pants that morning. We didn't want her running around and climbing on things in a dress, so he made her wear pants, but agreed she could bring a dress to change into after. So Kara decided to bring a dress to change into also. The changed and got their faces cleaned, and then we went to Garlan and Jill's house. Sara and her family came over too, and we all went to dinner at a mongolian bbq place. It was pretty good. Kara loved sitting by her cousin Karen and playing with her. Kiersten was a little jealous of Kara having a friend. After dinner we went back to Garlan and Jill's for a while. Jason and Lisa had to get home, but Sara came back over and played games. It was a fun time, and we probably stayed later than we should have, but it's worth it when you are having that much fun. And I dominated at Boggle, of course. hehehe.

Diney on ice 2010
Since we went to Disney on ice last year, we were able to go again this year for half price. Here are some pictures we got of the show. The girls absolutely loved it again. It's all they've been talking about for the past week. Kiersten was so excited to dress up, and had her outfit picked out a few days early. And Kara has been asking every day, how many days til we get to go to disney on ice.
this was the opening number. it sure got the girls excited and riled up! They were excitedly pointing out all the characters they recognized.
Evie watched the entire 2 hour show. She didn't make a peep. I was worried, because it was really loud and bright, but it didn't bother her one bit. She even fell asleep toward the end, which was the loudest part. We went to the movies today, and she was perfectly behaved again. I guess I just need to get her out of the house more when she's being grumpy.
Ben's favorite was Jack, the pumpkin king. He probably was the best skater we saw. Kiersten was afraid during the halloween part of the show.
villians.
Ben was pretty impressed with Jasmine's toned abs.
most of the princesses were there with their princes.

Kiersten was so excited during most of the show.
these mickey ears came with some cotton candy. Evie drank her bottle during the intermission, and then watched the second part of the show.

the toys from toy story got the biggest applause, and they were only on at the very end. but people were freaking out when they came out. Kara got pretty excited about buzz lightyear.
part of the finale. I still don't know how Evie could sleep through all that without even stirring.
Everyone had fun, and I'm glad we went. If they come back next year, I'm sure we'll go again. I never used to believe it when people said they'd rather see their kids have fun than do something they think is fun. But it's totally true. Seeing your kids so happy and excited is way more fun than doing anything else I can think of. After the show, we picked up Ben's mom from the airport, and we had a pretty fun day with her today, going out to eat, shopping, and seeing the movie "megamind". but I am super tired now, and it's not even 6:00 yet. Hopefully the girls will go to bed early so we can have another fun filled day with Grandma tomorrow.

how Evie spends the day
In case you were wondering what an almost 4 month old girl does all day, here are a few pictures I got this morning.
Evie learned to sit up by herself last week. She loves sitting up, and was trying for several weeks to figure it out. Now she is always wanting me to sit her up, as she still can't get into the position by herself. She is getting better at it, but still falls back or to the side sometimes, and gets pretty upset about it.
She has the chubbiest cheeks, and the squishiest little feet!
trying to get the binky. I'm usually tempted to just pop it in for her, but I'm really trying to let her figure out how to do things for herself.
enjoying her hard gotten gains. while still maintaining her upright position... she's got skills.

Trick or treating
The girls got glow in the dark halloween jammies. They really love wearing them.
Here we are getting ready for a halloween party. If you can't tell, Kara is a bee, Kiersten is a butterfly, and Evie is a lady bug. And I wore Ben's old karate gi. I am sad to say that I am now the same size that Ben was when we met.

at the halloween party. Kara wasn't afraid of jack skellington, but kiersten was.
all the kids played and watched the great pumpkin Charlie Brown movie. There were some great costumes. My favorite was one of the kids dressed as Link from the game Zelda, and his mom had made the costume. Maybe next year I will try to make costumes...
little trick or treaters. They had fun, and got tons of candy, for not going out that long. Ben took them to a house with a fog machine and scary decorations. as they got to the door, a skeleton thing popped down and scared the crap out of Kara. Ben said she just took off running across the yard at full speed, and Kiersten just stood there trembling. The lady at the house felt really bad, and gave them lots of candy.
Evie and I stayed home to answer the door and make dinner. I thought I was getting the easy job, but we had so many kids show up. I was answering the door, and then running back to the stove, and then running back to answer the door, and then having to pick up the baby. The best was when I was nursing Evie, and holding her in my left arm. I was trying to drain a pot of pasta with my right arm, and the doorbell rang. I had to try to get the rest of the pasta into the collander, and hurry to the door while covering myself up, and giving Evie her binky so she'd stop screaming about the interrupted feeding. I almost turned off the light after that, but luckily, Ben and the girls came home pretty soon after that. I guess I was a little overly ambitious.
