Barbados Wildlife Reserve

We took a trip to the Barbados Wildlife Reserve. We were hoping to see some monkeys, and we were in for a treat.
We walked around looking at tortoises while we waited for the monkey feeding time. I've never seen so many tortoises. They were everywhere. The shaded spots were taken up by the largest ones. The smaller ones had to fight for the rest of the spots.
We saw some on the move, and they walked faster than Id' have imagined.

We were intrigued by these trees with cactus leaves. The tree trunk was like a regular tree, but then the top part was a succulent. I've not seen anything like that before.
There were lots of vines hanging everywhere. Ben recommended that I not try to swing.
Weird right?
Ben chased some peacocks around.
We also saw some iguanas. There were supposed to be caimans too, but we never saw them. Maybe they saw us.

There were tons of these big cages, but most were empty and kind of falling apart. This one had big white rabbits.
We weren't sure what this guy was. It was by the rabbits, so maybe a short eared rabbit of some sort? Capybara?
Ben's harassment paid off, and he got one of the peacocks to fan it's tail. I have some really funny pictures of the effort in progress.
Barbados Green monkeys are pretty charming. Ben accidentally knocked this guy over with a liter water bottle.
I liked the little ones best. They had to hang back while the large ones took the food they wanted first. Lots of people left before the little ones even started coming in for their food.

What are they looking at? I laugh every time I see this.

Ben bought this christophine from the market. So he threw out a piece to try to get a monkey to come over. The monkeys wouldn't touch it, but this tortoise ate this whole piece. Hopefully it's not bad for them. It tasted like a potato, and we were warned not to eat too much because it lowers your blood pressure.
The monkeys liked seeing themselves on people's camera phones. This little guy took a selfie, and that caused quite a stir.
Some of the monkeys jumped and climbed on the tortoises and they did not like it. Have you ever heard a tortoise hiss angrily? I have.
I liked seeing the monkey families. This mom was nursing her baby while her older baby was picking bugs off her head. Very cute.

Ben tried a drink called Mauby, and I was concerned with how excited everyone was that he was getting it. They all told us how healing and good it is for you. Ben confirmed that it was a medicinal experience.
