Because Kara loves scrapbooking so much, Kiersten has taken an interest. Kara is really good about sharing her supplies and helping Kiersten. Kiersten sure goes through lots of stickers though. But I only give them stickers that I find really cheap on clearance to use.
Kara has completed the first session of her new ballet class. She has this weekend off, before the next session starts. In may she will be performing in Cinderella with all of the othe classes and age groups. I keep telling her she isn't going to be Cinderella, but she doesn't seem to believe me.
Parents' visit day was this past saturday. She seemed to be having lots of fun, and was by far the best bahaved. the teacher didn't have to get after her once. all of the other girls got in trouble several times each.
There was an Easter egg hunt at the community center where she takes her classes. It started right after her class was over. Here she is waiting for the fun to start. It was only for ages 3-11, but I let Kiersten participate. She only picked up 3 eggs, then decided she didn't like the chaos of all those kids running around, and came back to stand by me. She was perfectly happy with the candy she got. It's better anyway, since we always throw away holiday candy after several months. We do let them have it from time to time, but they always have so much, and we can't just let them eat all of it.
Here she is playing with "Mrs. Gunny-bag". She wasn't cleaning up her toys, so I said Gunny-bag was gonna eat all the toys. I drew faces on 2 bags, and started going after the toys. that got them to claen up, but soon turned into a game.
I let the girls paint these bunny masks. I feel horrible that I touched up kiersten's so much that you can hardly tell she worked on it. She did almost all of the white, though. I just did the other 2 colors, and outlines. But I still wish I had just left it as she did it. Kara's is the brown one. I didn't help her at all. I like that what I saw as bunny paws, she saw as easter eggs.
recognize those blue eyes?
they have been having so much fun with these all weekend. They made them on Friday eveningKara has been trying to teach Kiersten to do a somersault. I haven't been too encouraging for her to learn it yet, but she is so determined to try.
Several weeks ago, Kara went to a birthday party, and in the goodie bag was a flower pot. It had coloring pages inside that kara could color. So I let her pick one to color, and then she got to buy some flower seeds to plant. She finally has sprouts, and she couldn't be more proud of them. She waters them every day, and can't wait til there are flowers.
Kiersten started throwing up on tuesday. She would take one sip of her drink, or one bite of food, and she would puke. I was worried that she might be having a hard time adjusting to 2% milk instead of whole, since the first couple of times were right after she'd had milk. But after I switched to pedialyte only, she still kept throwing up, so I guess she just got a stomach bug. She threw up all day wednesday as well, and also had TONS of runny, poopy diapers. The highest fever she ran was 99.1, so I didn't take her to the doctor. Thrusday she woke up more cheerful, and could eat fine, and didn't throw up at all. I was so glad to have her back to her normal, happy self. but around 4:30, Kara suddenly started throwing up. between then and about 8:00 when Ben got home, she threw up 5 times, and was dry heaving after there was nothing left in her stomach. She hasn't been running a fever, though. I feel so bad for her. Kiersten started saying her tummy hurt again, but only after Kara was sick, and she was acting fine, so I think she just missed the attention of being the sick one. Poor Kara has been sick ever since. She threw up after eating just one grape. I had Ben make her a little bed on the floor next to ours in case she had any problems during the night. (and also because I'd changed her sheets twice already, and didn't want her throwing up on her bed again.) I only had to get up with her once during the night, but when I woke up, Ben had given her a cup of milk before he left. So I found her sleeping there, holding the cup, with a plastic bowl full of milk-vomit. He must have given her the bowl because he knew the milk would make her sick, but I can't figure out why he even gave her the milk! as soon as she woke up, she wanted more milk, but I made her drink pedialyte instead, and she held that down fine. When I called her teacher to say she wouldn't be in school today, she got very upset, and started claiming to be better. It was kinda sad, but she ended up napping so much today, that I don't think she really noticed missing school. Hopefully, this will just be a 2 day thing for her as well, and she will start feeling better this weekend. All she has wanted to eat today is bread and butter.
I put her hair up like that because she kept getting vomit in her hair, yuck! She has been really good today. She hasn't fought with Kiersten once. She just wants to watch cartoons and nap. but I did insist on giving her a bath, which she wasn't too happy about. Although Kiersten is feeling better, she is a little disappointed that Kara doesn't want to play with her. So she has been hanging out by Kara a lot today.
First, a few pictures of the girls enjoying Kiersten's polka dot cake on Friday night after dinner.
We just invited a few friends to Kiersten's birthday at Godfather's pizza. It was a fun little party, and so easy to plan.
Kiersten absolutely loved her birthday cake! And it ended up tasting really good too. I knew she wouldn't keep a party hat on for long, so I got her a birthday badge to wear. She was so proud of it.
Ben let her eat way too much candy. I started getting kind of annoyed, but I know he wouldn't let her have enough to get sick or anything.
There is an arcade area in this godfather's. Kara loved this racing game. We still had a big bag of quarters from last year's easter egg hunt, so we brought those along. All the kids played tons of games, and we still have about half of the quarters left.
I think all the kids had a good time
This candy crane game must have had a bunch of extra quarters in it. At first, it just kept giving the kids more and more turns. Every time they pushed the button, it would go again without even putting their quarter in. After about 10 free turns, it finally stopped doing it, but we ended up with tons of free candy.
A large party didn't show up, so they gave us the large, secluded section. I was glad because the original area we had reserved was just enough tables for all of us to sit and eat, but we wouldn't have had extra room for gifts, cake, etc. It was nice to have this whole big area to spread out.
She wore a party hat for a minute or two this year. I love her party dress, but Ben was not a fan of the bubble skirt.
opening gifts!
this toy was a big hit with all the kids!
If I knew it was going to be a nice day, I would have done her party at a park, but it turned out well here. She was so excited to have a pizza party, and I don't think she was disappointed at all.
My Kiersten baby is 2 years old today! Ben likes to get their picture as they come downstairs in the morning. She was thrilled to find all these presents waiting for her. We let her open most of them, but we saved 2 from us and the one from Kara for her birthday party tomorrow.
she loved the hanging balloons. Funny note; these are the same balloons from Kara's birthday in January. They never deflated, so I just re-used them. Of course she had most of the balloons down and the streamers too, by lunch time.
This was my first time using newspaper to wrap a gift. I've seen it done a lot, but I've never been inclined to do it before now. I got burned out on wrapping gifts late last night, and I did this first thing this morning before she woke up.
She was so happy to open the gifts! We had her open the new chair first, so she could sit in it to open the rest. She loves this chair!
She loves Nick Jr., so we got her a 3 pack DVD. She has wanted to watch the same one 3 times today. I let her since it is her birthday and also because I was busy with making cakes. There are 5 or 6 shows on each disc, but she wanted to watch the same one over and over, silly girl.
opening her new laptop. now she wont have to fight with Kara over the other one. Kara's is a little advanced for her anyway, and I thought she would have more fun with this one for younger toddlers.
She looks funny in this one, because she was excitedly telling me that it had bubbles. I caught this just as she was pronouncing the "s".
she loves the laptop! I knew she would because she played with it in the shopping cart when I bought it. I am not very sneaky or secretive, but I'll have to get better about it now that they're getting older.
I offered her anything she wanted for breakfast, and she chose cereal, of all things.
She is always jealous of Kara's apron and hat, so she got one of her own. She got to wear it to help me bake her birthday cake.
posing with all of her gifts so far. She will be getting a few more fun toys tomorrow at her party. She got to open all of the clothes, and gifts from granparents, aunts, and uncles, and some of the toys we got her.
She got this baby pony from Grandpa and Grandma Boot. So far today it has been her favorite new toy. She calls it "cute pony" and is feeding it constantly. I have already had to help her diaper it twice. I have seen these and wanted to get her one for a while, so I'm glad she finally has one.
watching her new movie in her own chair. It even rocks.Toys R us has these "birthday" Barbies for $3. So both girls got one. It wasn't wrapped as a birthday gift, but she saw it and wanted it opened. I'm surprised how much she likes barbies. Kara never had them at this age, because I didn't think she would like them that much. but it's one of their favorite things to play with.
I made Kiersten a Wow wow Wubbzy cake this year. It wasn't very hard to carve it out, but my wrist was killing me by the time I was done icing it. I think it turned out pretty cute. Kiersten recognized it as Wubbzy as soon as I had it carved and the first layer of yellow frosting on. She got more and more excited as he started coming together. I had enough cake left over to make a birdy-bird, but by the time I was done with Wubbzy, I just wanted to be done. she keeps asking, "where's Widget?" (one of the other characters from the show) I just laugh and tell her there is no way I'm making a Widget cake too.
Here's what he is supposed to look like if you don't know. I picked him because he is Kiersten's favorite character, and because I figured he would be simple enough. Basic shape, and not too many colors.I started working on cakes as soon as Ben and Kara left this morning. I didn't finish til 1pm. Luckily, we had leftover sandwiches from Jimmy John's to eat for lunch, so that was easy.
I used the left over cake to make a cake for Kiersten to have tonight after dinner. I tried fondant again, and it went much smoother this time. I still hate how much of a mess it makes, but I worked as clean as possible. I know the board is messy, but I'm pretty happy with it. And I have to say, kneading the fondant makes all the difference. I skipped that last time, because I thought it was a waste of time, but it made everything much easier. It took forever to color the pink and purple fondant, though. And of course my hands are totally stained, but it was still fun.
