Evie's Dreams

Evie wanted to walk to and from swim practice one morning. On the way home, she was telling me all about her twin chipmunk daughters, and how she tells them apart. She wanted to see if they were in the backyard. Unfortunately they were not, but a friendly turtle was visiting.
She said, "Oh, I know this turtle. He's my best friend".
Kiersten was watching a tv show about shopping for wedding dresses. Evie asked if she could try on mine, so I figured that would be fine.
She made a lovely bride. She found it funny that the dress poufed out over the ottoman she was standing on.

Kiersten made her a toilet paper bouquet, the best kind!

We decided to eat lunch outside in hopes her chipmunk daughters might make an appearance. No luck.

Kara went to her friend's Bat Mitzvah. She had a great time.

It was quite the party!
After 3 1/2 weeks Evie finally got her yucky tooth pulled. I was so relieved. It turned out that her dentist had accidentally drilled into the nerve when fixing a cavity. That is what the oral surgeon said caused this whole thing. The dentist said that's not what happened, but who knows? She liked the surgeon, and she liked his selection of prizes. Actual stuffed animals instead of little plastic trinkets. We had to go back again a week later to get a spacer put in where he pulled the tooth. I think she ended up with 3 stuffed animals and a unicorn headband from there after all was said and done.
She also got to keep the pig nose that they used to give her the gas. She said it still smelled funny though.

Just Start Swimming

Swim team is always a big part of our summer. I volunteered in the bull pen again this year, but always try to get  away for a few minutes to see my chicky-poos swim.

Time trials is a little more low key, because it's just our team, and it goes much faster.
I took Ben to the dentist that morning, and then hurried to get Evie to her cheer camp. He called me to come get him, and we had to rush to the oral surgeon if he wanted to get the tooth out that day. So I stopped by the cheer camp and took Evie out early on our way. Luckily the oral surgeon stayed a little late for us so he could get it taken care of already. It took longer than I expected, so I started getting stressed about getting Evie to the pool in time for swim team. When he was all finished, I raced home and dropped Evie off at the pool. Kara and Kiersten had packed her stuff for her and walked to the pool while we were driving home. Then I ran Ben home and got him situated. I grabbed chairs for the girls and a few things they'd forgotten. Then I dropped those at the pool and went to walgreens for Ben's prescription. I didn't have time to get it home to him before time trials, so I went back to the pool for that, and then he had to wait for it to be over to get his medicine. But at the end of the night, I felt like everyone was in a better place than we'd been that morning. And I slept very well. Ben did not. He was out of it for several more days, kind of stuck in an in-between waking and sleeping state. He was talking a lot of nonsense and was confused. When he was better later in the week, he had no idea all of the crazy things he had been saying. To him it seemed like he was acting normal.
Evie loved cheer camp again this year, even with the tooth situation.

She did such a great job at the final performance. Last year I mentioned she wasn't smiling a whole lot, and this time she made sure to smile really big.

She just loves the big girls, and always thinks they are her new best friends.

I was her only fan again, but it didn't seem to upset her as much as the dance recital. Maybe because she works on dance all year, and cheer camp is just one week. She was embarrassed about her swollen face, but I told her she would be fantastic no matter what. She was relieved that not one person asked about it the entire week.

The Dance Performance

Evie's dance class took their photos back in April, but I saved them to go along with the pics from the recital.
They had the photos done in their tap costumes, which disappointed her slightly, because she loved the ballet skirt and hair flower.

The last week of May, I took her to the rehearsal for the show. It's always a busy afternoon.

She had an abscessed tooth, and was on an antibiotic waiting for the swelling to go down before it could be extracted. It was a rough few weeks, but she was a trooper. She still did all of her activities and did her best.
Before the tooth was able to come out, i took her to the pediatrician, the regular dentist, then the oral surgeon twice. It got really distressing. At a certain point, I started demanding a set of pliers to take the tooth out myself. Luckily, I calmed down, and we waited for the antibiotics to do their trick so it could be removed more easily, with no need for cutting and stitching.

I spent the morning of the performance at the ER with Ben. He had gotten a blood infection from an abscessed tooth (coincidentally). But it took forever to figure out what was going on. The ER doctor was convinced it was a virus at first, and then only cared about treating his high blood pressure, which was admittedly very high. But he said he didn't see an infected tooth, and didn't think that was related to the full body spasms and muscle cramping. His whole body was freezing cold, but he was sweating a ton. There was an actual puddle of sweat around him on the bedroom floor. The doctor figured out his kidneys were not functioning correctly, but still really thought it was a virus. He didn't get properly diagnosed for the infection until a few days later at a follow up with the GP. So we were sent home from the ER with muscle relaxers and pain killers, no antibiotics. I called on the way to have Kara get Evie ready for the recital. I got home just in time to get Ben into bed and rush Evie off to the recital location. Quite a stressful morning.

It was good to have a little break from running Evie and Ben around to different doctors and just enjoy watching my little sunshine dance her heart out. She did such a great job, but was a little disappointed that I was her only fan. Hopefully this year, we'll all be able to be there for her.
See that swollen cheek? It hurt her so much. I hated it!
