Shryock's Farm

We wanted to make sure that we stopped at Shryock's farm and corn maze on our way to Kansas City at least once this year. We lucked out to be there on a nice day this year.
Rope swingin in the barn is always fun.

And who wouldn't want to play in a giant box of corn. I heard another parent repeatedly telling his son not to eat it. He said it was just so good, though.

It was a hot day (in October!) and everyone was sweaty.

Kiersten specifically wore her most cowgirl/farmer outfit. She really wanted Ben to send a picture to Papa so he would see how cute her outfit was.
This is the point I should have remembered to make everyone go to the bathroom before we entered the corn maze.
But in we went, full bladders and all.

We split up quite a bit, and found each other pretty easily. Ben got a handle on the map, and so did Kara, so we just made sure Evie, Kiersten, and I stayed with one of them at all times, and no one got lost.

We only found 2 of 8 checkpoints to get our maps punched before everyone needed to find their way out and to a bathroom. They opted not to go back in afterward, since it was so hot out there.
Back in the barn we played with the corn some more.

The slide looks pretty fun, and adults are actually allowed, though I've yet to try it.

We let the girls get gumballs from this huge Rube Goldberg machine. They tried to keep an eye on their gumball as it went all around the rafters and made it's way back down. Kiersten's rolled over the edge, and crashed to the ground, so she was given a new quarter to try again.

KC Chiefs Sideline Photos

Because Ben got so many cool pictures when he and Kiersten were on the sideline before the game, they get their own post. I think this is a better time to get to be on the field than at halftime or after the game. They had so much fun!

Pretty fun to get to see this guy in action so close up!

I took a few more of his pictures from the other games. They're always better than mine.

During the Crucial Catch cancer awareness game, every seat had a card and a sharpie to write down the name of the person they cheer for. It turns out that grandmas are pretty popular with our group.

Time to Tailgate

We've been lucky to have pleasant weather for all of the KC Chiefs games we've gone over to this year. We don't go again until December, so I don't have high hopes for it to be nice. Kiersten was happy to win a bacon headband. She did not want to take it off.
McDonald's has a fun game in the Ford Fan Zone this year. We have won lots of free happy meals and Big Macs. Evie is not very good at it.
Kara does play pretty well.

Ben and Evie challenged Kara and Kiersten in giant beer pong, or whatever they called it. It was giant beer pong.

We love a good win! We always go home with our ears ringing, so we might as well get a win out of it, right?
The girls were excited to get pulled out of school early when we went to the Monday Night Football game. We didn't go to the second MNF game, because I didn't want them to miss school again. We need the Chiefs to play fewer prime time games, lol. They were less excited about trying to sleep in the car as we drove home late after the game so they could go to school on Tuesday morning. There was some grumpiness going on that day.

I was so worried when the game looked like it was going to overtime. So we were happy not just to win, but for the game to be done, ha!
I much prefer the Sunday morning games so we have plenty of time to drive home afterward and get everyone to bed at their normal time.
Ben and Kiersten got to be on the sidelines for the game against the Steelers, so I got to goof around with Kara and Evie.

Evie wanted to get her face painted. She asked for a Chiefs unicorn. The lady was super nice, and said she'd do her best.
So that turned out... nice... not at all creepy.
We played some corn hole and then headed in to the stadium. I read later about really long lines, and people having to wait forever to get in. I don't know how our timing was, but we didn't wait more than 5 minutes to get in the gate, and were in our seats before kick off. The girls really wanted to be in there for the jet flyover.

GO CHIEFS!

Almost Fall, My Deer

It has finally gotten cooler, and Evie knew just what hat she wanted me to make for her. Oink! The self-professed "Queen of the Pigs", now has a nice pink pig hat to show off her affinity. The other 2 have not yet asked for anything, but I'm sure I'll be getting requests soon enough.
When Kiersten got to bring home the Eagle mascot from Girls on the Run, she wanted to bring it to soccer practice and get a picture for the team book. It turned out cute, so I am sharing here as well. They each get to add something to the eagle and write about a time they showed strength. She made a blue hair bow. She had it pretty early on in the season. Now it is really fancy with tons of cool trinkets, hat, shoes, etc.
It is the time of year that deer are everywhere. I have almost hit several while I'm running the girls around in the evenings. Our back yard has been quite the social hot spot for them lately. The girls love to see them, but I fear my time of having not run one of them over could be running short. A few days ago, I had to slam hard on my breaks to avoid a large one, and he then gave me a dirty look as he took 10,000 years to cross the street in front of me.

Evie gets pretty excited to see the babies.

I thought this was so funny. After Kara's 2nd degree brown belt test, we went to a friends' house to hang out. When it was time to go, we found her sleeping peacefully by the front door. It was a long, tough test. I will note, they have several couches, chairs, and beds she could have used.
